Trados Studio is one of the most widely used translation memory software packages.
These packages segment the text content of a source file into grammatical units, mostly sentences, according to a set of punctuation rules.
The punctuation rules are essentially the same for all packages.
In particular, a paragraph should only consist of a set of complete sentences. A paragraph break is therefore regarded as an inviolable boundary between segments.
The segments of text are presented for translation and the segment translations are stored in a translation memory database.
When a segment closely matches a previous segment, the corresponding translation is presented for editing.
This has implications for document formatting - see under Blogs/Heaven_key.
